Mercury Awards

Since the shortlist was announced earlier this summer, anticipation for the much awaited Mercury Awards has only grown, peaking no doubt tonight as we find out which of the 12 albums judged will take on the musical prestige of the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize.

The list is diverse, reaching from the grungy, R&B pulses of KatyB, to the mellowed electronic sound of Metronomy. And let's not forget the recent successes of Adele's album 21, to which she can add this Mercury nomination as yet another nod towards her ever expanding awards cabinet.

As posted on the official awards site, the nominations are as follows:

Adele - 21
Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi
Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys!
Everything Everything - Man Alive
Ghostpoet - Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam
Gwilym Simcock - Good Days At Schloss Elmau
James Blake - James Blake
Katy B - On A Mission
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins - Diamond Mine
Metronomy - The English Riviera
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Tinie Tempah - Disc-Overy

Turn to BBC 2, 10pm tonight to find out which of these artists will be walking away with a brand new musical accolade.
